The previous paint system was showing signs of wear therefore the centre management took the opportunity to re-protect the floors with a fresh epoxy paint system combined with the introduction of a visual management approach.
Visual management is a tool to improve both efficiency and safety by introducing specific demarcated work areas. In this case it was felt a bright green walkway (green to represent safe areas) linking the offices, welfare and the workshop would prevent employees walking through working zones. Different colour paint systems differentiated work in, work in progress, and finished work areas.
The floor was lightly ground under vacuum and then one coat of water dispersible epoxy paint was applied by brush and roller. The floor was finished with a top coat of Resucoat HB, developed by Resin Surfaces. This is a high-build epoxy which provides good wear resistance even to constant vehicle use. Included in the finish is a 250 micron bead for slip resistance but which still maintains a very easy to clean surface. The finished system provides a tough, resilient, corriosion and abrasion resistant finish with good chemical resistance.
Resucoat HB is suitable for most industrial floors including concrete, sand and cement screeds and certain types of asphalt. The chemical and oil resistant properties of the system make the product ideal for engineering units, automotive workshops and factories where a tough cleanable finish is required.
