These tanks store run-off /effluent from chemical processing at a large industrial facility prior to treatment. The effluents range from a pH level of 4 (acidic) to 12 (alkali) and with the tank linings subject to constant immersion a very high quality system was required.
The tanks were pumped out and all the effluent solid sludge was bagged for special disposal. The concrete was high-pressure jetted to remove chemical residues and the previous linings were thoroughly abraded to ensure a full key. Damaged areas of concrete were cut and broken out and repaired with resin mortars. The tank was then lined with an epoxy primer and two coats of solvent-free 100% epoxy paint applied by brush and roller. With epoxy tank lining systems the coating is fully bonded to the concrete (ie it becomes part of the concrete).
