Case study - Cotham Lawn House

  • Client:
  • Cotham Lawn House
  • Location:
  • Clifton, Bristol
  • Project:
  • Surface Dressing to existing tarmac
  • System:
  • 2.5mm buff resin binder with 2-5mm Rhine Gold aggregate
Hydraulic mortars to build-up out of spec falls
  • Area Size:
  • 180sqm

These apartment blocks were completely refurbished to a very high standard but the existing tarmac parking area was worn and potholed, leading to ponding of water. Additionally the blacktop finish was not appropriate aesthetically for the revamped building.

To correct the falls a hydraulic mortar was installed. This provides a strong substrate even at thicknesses as low as 2mm. It also dries rapidly to maintain project timescales.

The epoxy binder was then installed by trowel and notched squeegee at 2.5mm thickness and the chosen aggregate, a 2-5mm Rhine Gold, fully scattered into the wet resin. As the epoxy resin cures if forms a very strong adhesion to the aggregate.

The Rhine Gold aggregate is a rounded stone that matched the colour of the building façade, but a whole range of different aggregates are available to choose from.

The completed project was awarded the Annual Gold Start Award 2008.
